DayNight

Firstly, massive thanks for agreeing to do the interview with us Mr Keos were hyped to have you involved…

So to kick off we’ve got a few questions for you, firstly we got ask where did it begin for you, and what really got you interested in graffiti?
I started in 1988 tagging around where i lived, then progressed into painting tracksides on the NorthernLine in Liverpool, there was only 1-2 other writers at the time.
Travelling wasn’t easy then as I was pretty skint, I painted Manchester though which has always had a decent graft scene, bus bombing etc. with a few writers I met from Moston. KEOS was my tag then and still is today, but these days I use MrKEOS as I’m a bit older.

Where do you most like to paint “for example what cities etc train yards, walls in towns, abandoned plots”?
My favourite place to paint is London, the freedom you have these days is decent, loads of good spots, a mix for everybody really. Also I like painting stuff in bandos.

How often do you sketch pieces before you paint them if you do sketch, what are your go to pens, pencils, markers etc?
I love to sketch in my kitchen on a newspaper with a black bic biro, thats my goto pen,
also I love to create colour work with Posca pens.

What’s your favourite method to get up, rollers, markers, tins, paste ups, trowies, pieces, handstyles?
These days I dont tag really, I like to paint fast chromes, occasionally a big roller, and quick 1-2hour colour pieces, anything longer I just get a bit bored of the piece.

Whats the funniest or craziest story you have from painting?
When I first started tagging I chose CURSE as my tag, went out with a mate of mine, we were tagging this wall along a path and got chased, we legged it off and I ran straight into a post on my chin, it was bleeding pretty bad and I still have the scar. After that I changed my tag to KEOS

What crews do you rep?
Not at the moment, just like to paint alone mostly. I love the escapism from painting, just there in the moment its an amazing feeling.
I do paint sometimes in London with a few friends though.

What’s your favourite caps and why?
Loop stock cap is my goto cap, also love yellow astro for quick fill ins, so good.

Are there any writers or styles you are influenced by, or see as role models in your own graff career?
Dondi is a favourite of mine, just love the simplicity in his letters, and the hazy fills are sick af.
When I was a kid Subway Art and Spraycan Art were a massive influence.

What have you done artwise outside of Graff have you painted for any gallery’s or designed for a brand as yet?
I am currently working a lot on canvas and have had a few exhibitions.

What’s your favourite colour scheme?
Chrome/Black with a splat of Orange

Who’s your favourite writer, alive or past?
SEEN

When you paint do you like to paint at night or are you more of smashing it in the day kind of writer?
I like to paint early morning these days when there is nobody around.

Any shout outs?
too many to mention, plus don’t want to offend anyone by not mentioning them.
